Search and Map Setup

The Adaptation & Action Explorer homepage gives visitors two connected ways to find a place: direct search and visual map browsing. Search is for visitors who already know the city, state, region, or country they want to investigate; the map is for visitors who want to explore geographically, compare the spread of locations, or discover places by browsing. Both paths lead into the same location profiles, so the experience stays consistent whether someone starts by typing or by selecting a pin.

The map uses clear city and state/region categories, lightweight filters, and a compact preview card to help visitors confirm they have selected the right place before opening the full profile. The preview summarizes the most decision-useful signals, including reporting status, hazard coverage, disclosed actions, and projects seeking funding. The setup is designed to move visitors quickly from discovery to evidence while keeping search flexible, the map readable, and the filters easy to turn on or off.
