The top logo currently links to the main page (cdp-action-explorer.net). I think the top logo should link to the CDP website landing page instead (https://www.cdp.net/en/cdp-adaptation-and-action-explorer). Otherwise it serves as an extra “back to map” but I don’t think people will assume that…

The Google Earth engine maps are useful primarily at a regional level of granularity, placing most cities totally within one level of observed heat, flood etc risk. This is likely useful regardless, though most urban planners benefit most from more granular data, which one would think would be available for these various remote-sensed risks. Also, as a researcher, the lack of ability to build and export custom csvs makes this database difficult to use for planetary analysis. Dashboards of this sort commonly include customizable csv export options, but the lack of that feature here means researchers will either not use it (depriving CDP, its users and the scientific community the benefit of understanding the global urban trends it reveals) or will take pains to scrape information off of the website.

Camilla K: Translations of climate hazards do not align with those in the questionnaire. This raises the risk of incorrect translations and confusion among disclosers and data users. For example, there are two slightly different options of river flooding in Portuguese, Option A is used in the questionnaire portal and the discloser sees that one. But then Option B is shown in the Explorer. To one data user, Option A and Option B could be synonymous, but to a technical expert, these may be distinct types of river flooding.

They are not clickable or even labeled, and therefore the only way to get to a given location’s information is via the search bar.
Make the map pins clickable where it brings you to that municipality’s reporting data. And probably also add labels to the map pins once you zoom far enough in.

For Thua Thien Hue Province, I’m concerned about how the investment needs datapoint is being pulled in. When I compare it to the dataset, I am seeing that the “Upgrading of the Thieu Hoa River Dike System” has a flat investment need of 4,927,557.
In some cases, is the investment needed being rounded down or up? Otherwise, I don’t understand this # difference

the file attached has several highlighted parts:
- fix/erase the typo “"e” twice
- add “se” before “divulgou
- the sentence starting with “Cidades” and ending with “tomando” is poorly translated and incorrect in proper brazilian portuguese. Please correct it to: ""Ao relatarem as ações que estão tomando, cidades, estados e regiões escolhem a partir de uma lista ampla de soluções que representam uma determinada medida em curso.”
- after “exemplo” there should be a ” : ”

following official IPCC translation standards (such as their translated Assessment Reports):In Portuguese, HAZARDS should be translated as “dados de ameaças” with the heading of this section being AMEAÇAS.
In Spanish, it should be translated as “datos de amenazas” with the heading being AMENAZAS.
make sure to fix it in both SPA and PORT versions

We need to flag non-disclosers with a banner on both the Hazards and Action Ideas tabs.
For a non-discloser, the AI chat will be even more limited since it doesn’t have disclosure data to pull from. It is currently offering similar prompts on the Action Ideas tab to what you get on the discloser pages, even though it can’t really answer them. If you can’t hide the AI chat on the action ideas page for non-disclosers, then maybe change the prompts to things it can answer, or have it more clearly indicate that since there is no 2025 CDP disclosure from this jurisdiction, it is unable to respond.

I don’t see the panel that says “This jurisdiction did not disclose through CDP in 2025. All hazard information displayed on this page is sourced from CDP analysis. To learn more about reporting through CDP, visit our website [Learn more about reporting]“.
I see it for those that disclosed non-publicly, but not for non-disclosers. A similar style of banner is needed as was mocked previously.

Documenting here to pick up post-launch: our colleagues who work on a big grant related to forests and states/regions have requested that we consider pulling in adaptation-related actions and goals from the Forest module, which is part of the States and Regions questionnaire (some Forest questions may be added for Cities in future questionnaires), to show alongside other actions. Please note this as something to explore in the near future.

“Action Ideas from Peer Cities” only works for cities, not states and regions. Suggest changing to “Action Ideas from Peer Cities, States and Regions” and similarly for the Source text below in italics, “CDP aggregation and analysis of 2025 disclosures from peer jurisdictions” - doesn’t need to be overly capitalized. of, not on, I think. Above that, change to “Browse ideas for actions that other cities and regions with similar…” - trying to not make it too long…
Can you also confirm that the peer matching process does pull from both the Cities dataset and the S&R dataset? My recommendation was to prioritize examples from their same discloser type, but include both in the lineup to fill in if there aren’t enough from their same type.
Noting also that the State of Virginia is currently mapped to a town called Virginia in Minnesota, which could be affecting this. Note that State of Washington is also mapped to Washington DC, so this seems to be a pattern.

We decided we don’t need to include the “e.V.” at the end of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. (It’s similar to Inc. or Ltd. as far as I understand and not needed here.)

I’ve wondered why the “Visit the Open Data Portal” call-out button is so closely linked to the CRVA status. Yes, one reason to visit the ODP might be to view a link to their CRVA, but there are hundreds of other reasons why you might want to visit the ODP to learn more, which isn’t indicated by this setup. Even just visually separating the white space around these two things but leaving them basically where they are might make this a bit clearer…

Looking better with the different icons for disclosed and non-disclosed locations. Is there another icon we could try for non-disclosers? Triangle with exclamation point makes it seem like it might be dangerous to click on it?! Maybe an open circle? Also the font is quite small to explain the icons. I suggest wording: ‘Jurisdiction did not disclose in 2025’, instead of ‘does not disclose’, since there will be time when they may have submitted in 2026 but we won’t have that data in the Explorer yet. Or they may have disclosed in 2024 but we don’t have that either.

I know this is an issue with the disclosure output/excel, but for whatever reason, many of the entries have “n” at their end. This often shows up for Q9.3. Is it possible to fix this on the Action Explorer end? Just flagging that it is feeding in this way to the tool, whether we’re okay with it or not.

For Montreal, I checked the disclosure and I’m not specifically seeing anything that says that Montreal has a heat health/early warning system or similar wording. I’m not sure if the chat feature is hallucinating or extrapolating based on the disclosure provided.

For Montreal, I tried to ask the explorer if it could compare Montreal’s adaptation actions to a nearby city. It took some prodding, but I got it to say it could compare to Toronto, but then after said it specifically needed me to provide Toronto’s info in the chat feature. In my view it is okay if the chat features can’t provide this data, but I think it took too long to say it couldn’t provide that information. Perhaps we can direct people back to the map to specifically look up Toronto or geographically close cities?

For the City of Montreal, when I ask what hazards are on the rise, it gives me descriptions in quotation marks. The information may be accurate, but it seems to indicate it is pulling from direct wording in the disclosure and this isn’t the case. For example, there is no wording of “high and increasing risk” for Extreme Heat in Q2.2

For the State of California, I’m a bit confused how hazard severity was ranked. It makes sense that Drought, Heat Stress, and Infectious disease are first because they had Current Magnitude of impact of hazard as High and % population exposed filled in. But then why is Biodiversity loss next? It’s current magnitude is listed as medium-high. Generally curious about this algorithm for ranking, as it seems a bit arbitrary/inaccurate.

For the State of California, I’m curious where the AI is getting that 25% of the state’s GDP is at risk from climate hazards. This very well could be true, but I’m not see where the AI is pulling from in the disclosure.

Following up about the way we are presenting the climate project cost and investment datapoints. For Boston, the tool is showing that both disclosed projects have no funding data, because it is worded “Total Funding Needed”. However, in the questionnaire disclosure, we can see that the total cost of projects are 4000000000. I wonder if it would be more useful to see the total cost data in the Explorer tool, because it is currently not represented.

I’m flagging again that it is confusing when multiple entries for Adaptation Actions are grouped together into one entry because they fall under the same type of Action. The Adapation Explorer notes that it is one action, but the questionnaire disclosure shows 3 separate actions, in the case of Boston all related to sea walls and costal protection structures. Descriptions are all bunched together and costs/details are merged. I just wonder if this can be displayed more clearly.

Blue pins for US states are currently all over the place - not where they belong. Colorado’s pin is in Texas; Virginia’s pin is in the upper midwest, etc.

The wording for the costs is a bit confusing. The questionnaire uses the terms “Total cost of project” and “Total investment cost needed”. But the Explorer Tool says “Total Funded,” as though this money has already been received. I think that Cities, States, and Regions interpret the question as the total cost, which would include what investment is needed. Can we change this wording? The ”% Funded” is also therefore confusing and the decimals after are too long.

So you are aware, it looks like the Adaptation Actions section is clustering when entries have the same Action kind but different action descriptions and associated responses. San Francisco has 10 Adaptation Actions disclosed, but only 7 appear in the Explorer because 4 of the responses are for “Government policies and programs actions: Development of targeted plan/program to address hazard(s) selected”. This means all the descriptions are bunched together, and the total cost of the action is summed. This may be intentional, but it was quite confusing on my end. If I want to look at Action 1, I can’t tell that it has a particular description and associated hazards/co-benefits. There is no cost info for it, but the total reads $500,000.
